On Wednesday, June 7th, The Department of Labor made the expected announcement that the Trump administration is withdrawing the Obama era joint employer doctrine.聽 This action is a mixed blessing for franchisees.聽On the one hand, the threat of joint employer classification has clearly negatively impacted many franchisees, including triggering the withdrawal of vital HR support by many 鈥渢hreatened鈥 franchisors.

On Tuesday, May 2nd, we put on our tuxes and dresses, and the 深夜福利站rolled out the red carpet to celebrate significant achievement in the quest for great franchising at its Total Quality Franchising Awards Gala. The celebration recognized Griswold Home Care as the AAFD鈥檚 Franchisor of the Year, attorney Michael Garner for Lifetime Achievement among many other industry and association leaders. Attendees were surprised and entertained by an 深夜福利站team cast (that included 深夜福利站Chairman, Bob Purvin鈥檚 鈥楤eatles鈥 impersonation) in presenting some endearing song and dance numbers. Then it was time to celebrate the AAFD鈥檚 Total Quality Franchising Awards in a beautifully set ballroom at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa.
Keith Miller and Ronald Gardner to Receive the 深夜福利站Chairman鈥檚 Award at 2017 Total Quality Franchising Awards Banquet
The American Association of Franchisees and Dealers (AAFD) will honor Keith Miller, Chairman of the Coalition of Franchisee Associations (CFA), and nationally recognized attorney Ronald K. Gardner Jr. with the Total Quality Franchising Chairman鈥檚 Award for Distinguished Service to the Franchising Community. These awards will be presented at the Total Quality Franchising Awards banquet and gala on Tuesday, May 2 in Indian Wells, California. This award is given to individuals who have performed extraordinary advocacy for franchisees.
W. Michael Garner to Be Honored with the AAFD鈥檚 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award
The American Association of Franchisees and Dealers (AAFD) has announced W. Michael Garner of Garner & Ginsburg, P.A. as this year鈥檚 recipient of the AAFD鈥檚 Total Quality Franchising Award for Lifetime Achievement. Garner will receive the AAFD鈥檚 highest individual recognition in acknowledgement for a lifetime of embracing collaborative relationships in franchising.

The American Association of Franchisees and Dealers (AAFD) announced Griswold Home Care (GHC) as AAFD鈥檚 Franchisor of the Year for 2017. Griswold Home Care, a company that provides non-medical at-home care services, made headlines in 2016 for successfully negotiating new franchise agreements that affirm a commitment to a common mission and shared guiding principles with its franchisees. These agreements scored above 97% in their compliance with the AAFD鈥檚 Fair Franchising Standards, one of the highest ratings in the AAFD鈥檚 history.
